Weather change is a time for easily causing risk of respiratory disease in babies. In particular, bronchiolitis is commonly seen in young children, mostly in children under 2 years old, the younger a child gets, the more difficult to treat and need strictly monitoring. However, many parents are often subjective to this disease or failed to proper child care will easily lead to pneumonia.

► Signs of bronchitis ​in children

Children with bronchiolitis have full of manifestations of common respiratory disease:

  • Nasal discharge, nasal obstruction
  • Dyspnea, wheeze​

  • Provide sufficiently water / milk to avoid dry inflamed throat, toxin elimination: in bronchiolitis, the supply of water/milk is very important. Dehydration will dry up the sputum and clogged small deep bronchi inside the lung cause increasing dyspnea for children. ​
  • For weaning babies, balanced diet should include full of 4 main food groups are sugar, protein, fat and minerals. ​
  • For infants, exclusive breastfeeding is still given at least in the first 6 months.
  • For babies with high fever and diarrhea, oresol supplement is necessary for electrolyte hydration. ​
  • Mothers need to pay attention to keep children away from the following foods: sugar-rich foods, soft drinks, indigestible foods,... 

► In addition, when a child has bronchiolitis, parents need to pay attention to his/her personal hygiene and habitat, as follows:

  • Clean your child's throat regularly with a normal saline solution, especially in children with easily- allergic host factor... ​
  • Keep your child's surrounding environment clean, airy living space, change bed sheets, blankets and mattress regularly. ​
  • Wear airy clothes in summer, keep warm in the cold season. ​
  • Restrictions on exposure to dog and cat fur, dust, charcoal stove smoke, smoke... ​​
  • Wash your hands with soap before and after childcare, after going to the restroom ​
  • Do not expose children to polluted environments, smog, especially tobacco smoke ​
  • Keep your child away from adults or other children with respiratory diseases.
