25/03/2023

The peak and prolonged hot weather will significantly affect the health of pregnant women. At this time, expectant mothers are also vulnerable to diseases such as dehydration, dermatitis, thermal shock... In order to keep maternal and fetal health out of weather influence in this summer, moms should “memorize” immediately these suggestions from AIH!

1. Stay away from dehydration

Ensure the safe and healthy pregnancy during the hot season, you need to drink enough water and avoid being dehydrated that will make you feel tired, hypotension. You should drink slowly in small sips, the amount of water per time is less than 100-200ml. Excessive water intake per time causes maternal body is unable to absorb and automatically excreted through the urine tract making you feel more tired.

2. A fresh nutritious diet

Hot weather cannot be changed, but you can take sun protection inside your body by choosing the proper foods according to your health condition. Besides, increase in juicy, vitamin and mineral-rich fruits also helps you feel more comfortable and healthier during the summer days. Green vegetables help prevent constipation in pregnant women, provide iron and calcium to the fetus for better intrauterine development. Simultaneously, adding legumes such as mung beans, black beans in moderate amount... help low down body heat, suitable for use in the sultry summer days. In addition, you need to prioritize steamed, boiled foods, minimize greasy, salted, spicy foods.

3. Choose the right time to go out

The hot weather, in addition to impacting and causing dehydration, it also causes sunstroke when you have to be exposed to too long with high temperature. Therefore, you need to avoid going out from 10:00 a.m to 16:00 p.m daily. When it is necessary to go out you should wear long and absorbent clothes, wear hats and bring water along.

Hypotension is a common condition during pregnancy. Therefore, when pregnant women have the signs such as vertigo, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, unusual thirst, pale or cold, tachypnea or hypopnea, lack of concentration,… they should quickly find a cool place to rest. Therefore, in order to prevent hypotension, mothers should avoid getting up quickly from sitting or lying down; does not stand for a long time; eat several small meals during the day; drink more water; wear loose clothes.
