Nearsightedness is an eye condition in which you can see nearby objects clearly, but faraway objects appear fuzzy or blurry. It’s also called myopia. Nearsightedness is extremely common but treatable. Nearsightedness tends to run in families and may develop gradually or rapidly, often worsening during childhood and adolescence.

The need to squint or partially close the eyelids to see clearly
Blurry vision when you look at faraway objects. Children may have trouble seeing the blackboard at school.

Protecting Your Vision

You can’t treat nearsightedness at home. However, some research suggests you may be able to slow its development. To help protect your eyes:

Get your vision checked regularly.
Manage chronic health conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
Wear corrective lenses prescribed by your eye doctor.
Wear sunglasses with ultraviolet (UV) radiation protection.
Use protective eyewear when doing risky activities, such as using toxic chemicals.
Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Avoid smoking.
Ensure working environment have adequate lighting
Take regular breaks from detailed work, such as looking at your computer screen
